Throughout the week, GoCards.com will unveil one member from the University of Louisville women's lacrosse's 2013-14 recruiting class. This week, New Jersey resident native Taylor Webster is in the spotlight.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's lacrosse signee Taylor Webster, identified as one of the top 20 lacrosse players to watch in New Jersey in 2013, has compiled a well-decorated career prior to joining the Cardinals in 2014.
"Taylor is a phenomenal athlete, who is powerful and fast," head coach Kellie Young said. "Her potential on and off the field is limitless. She enters Louisville with a strong sense of self, great maturity for a high school player, and an incredible passion for the sport of lacrosse."
Now at Columbia High in New Jersey, Webster has been selected to the 2013 U.S. National Lacrosse North Jersey Team. The midfielder, who plays club lacrosse for Tri-state and also played at Montclair Kimberley Academy, has helped guide her school teams to consecutive state titles in 2011-12.
Individually, Webster has earned all-county and all-conference first team honors and was selected in 2012 to play for the Lacrosse Recruits All-Star Team. She earned all-state honorable mention accolades for lacrosse and played on the girl's basketball team at Montclair Kimberley.
"The University of Louisville is beautiful and gives off a great first impression," Webster said when asked about what attracted her to Louisville. "Walking on campus felt like I was walking into an Olympic Village with all the perfect sports fields and facilities lined up next to each other. The thing that attracted me to Louisville the most would have to be the girls on the lacrosse team, and all the other student-athletes on campus. They all support one another and they all care so much about what they do."
Webster comes from a highly successful athletic family. Her father played football at Rutgers and continued his career with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers. Her grandfather, Elnardo Webster Sr., played college basketball at St. Peter's and then moved overseas to extend his playing career. One great grandfather, Bernardo Webster, was a professional boxer, while another, Horatius Greene, played professional baseball in the Negro League.
