
Chastain and Kylliainen Named AAC Swimmers of the Week

The first American Athletic Conference swimming and diving awards of the 2013-14 season were announced on Monday, with athletes from Louisville taking both awards. Cardinal junior Tanja Kylliainen was named American Athletic Conference female Swimmer of the Week, while senior Kameron Chastain was named male Swimmer of the Week.
Swimming in the first two meets of the season, Kylliainen won five individual events and added a relay win. In a season-opening win over Xavier, she won the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:58.79 and took the 200 IM in 2:02.64. She added a relay win by swimming the butterfly leg of the 200 Medley Relay in 24.69. At the SMU Classic, Kylliainen was named Swimmer of the Meet after winning three individual events and setting two meet records. Swimming in back-to-back races held just ten minutes apart, Kylliainen started with a time of 1:54.99 in the 200 butterfly, the top time in the nation so far this season. She followed that with a victory in the 200-IM, completing the race in 1:58.31 for her second meet record of the day. She concluded the meet with a 4:07.57 in the 400 IM for her third first-place finish of the day.
Chastain won every race he entered in Louisville's first meet of the year, a 189-70 victory. Chastain captured two individual victories, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.44 and taking the 200 breaststroke in 2:05.17. He was also part of two first-place finishing relays. He completed the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay in 25.13 and swam the leadoff leg of the 200 free relay in 21.29 as Louisville took first each time.
