Men's Tennis Off to Solid Start at FAU Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up nine wins on day one of the Florida Atlantic Invitational Results.
"It was a solid first day of the spring semester season," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. `To win nine of 12 matches on a hot and humid day is not bad. I expect a better level of play tomorrow since we are getting acclimated to the sunny outdoors after being indoors for about two months. I was particularly pleased with Albert and Alex for winning twice today. I took note that Austin came back from a second set deficit and the B division players only gave up a total of nine games in four matches as well."
The Cards squared off against Indiana in doubles and won two of four matches to start the tournament. The team of Albert Wagner and Alex Gornet defeated Sam Monette and Elliott Yee 9-8 (7-1) in the `A' division while Jeffrey Brown and Amaury Derognat beat Chris Essik and Alec DaVilla 8-6 in the `B' division.
Louisville played host Florida Atlantic in singles action and won seven of eight matches. In the `A' division, Sebastian Stielmeyer topped Will Neuner 6-4, 6-1. Wagner defeated Jose Fantova 6-4, 6-1 and Austin Siegel beat Matt Samberg 7-5, 6-4.
The Cards swept the `B' singles with Chris Simich picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Robbie Dubuque and Luis Elizondo defeating Sam Bacha 6-1,6-1. Gornet beat John Nowak 6-1, 6-1 and Van Damrongsri defeated Rich Meade 6-3, 6-0.
