University of Louisville head swimming coach Arthur Albiero was selected for induction to Oakland University's Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor, announced by Director of Athletics Tracy Huth. The 2013 Hall of Honor will take place during the Fifth Annual Homecoming Weekend in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms on Friday, Jan. 25th.
"We are very proud of what these student-athletes accomplished and how they shaped Oakland Athletics," said Huth. "The Hall of Honor represents the elite of Oakland Athletics, and we are extremely excited to welcome these outstanding alumni to the Hall."
Albiero (1993-96) won an individual national title in the 200-yard individual medley and swam on national title 800 freestyle relay teams. He competed for OU for three seasons and earned a total of 14 All-American honors. Albiero captained the 1996 squad that set an NCAA record for most points scored at a national championship meet. He graduated from Oakland in 1996 with a degree in psychology and is currently the head swimming and diving coach at Louisville.
"Arthur was a team captain during an unprecedented time in school history, both for the swimming program and the athletics department," said OU swimming and diving coach Pete Hovland. "We went undefeated in dual meet competition two years in a row, won consecutive GLIAC championships, as well as consecutive NCAA championships in each year he competed. Years in which their teams set GLIAC and NCAA records for most points ever scored in a championship meet."
