
Men's Tennis Set for Sunday's Home Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will open the 2013 dual match season when the Cards play host to Nebraska Sunday at 12 p.m.
"We have our work cut out for us on Sunday opening up with Nebraska," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "They never have a bad team and play in a very good conference but I am excited to see if we can rise to the occasion. Chris and Luis led the way for us in Florida and I have a lot of confidence in them. This will be great for the fans to see this high caliber in the first dual match of the season."
About the Cardinals
Louisville enters the season at No. 34 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings. Sophomore Sebastian Stiefelmeyer stands in at No. 80 in the singles rankings while sophomore Albert Wagner and freshman Alex Gornet are No. 31 in doubles.
Last Weekend
The Cardinals traveled to the FAU Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. last weekend for a preseason tune-up. In the tournament, they posted a 28-9 combined record in singles and doubles while taking on Indiana, Radford and host Florida Atlantic.
2012 Review
The Cardinals (18-10) made their fourth straight and ninth overall NCAA appearance under the guidance of 2012 BIG EAST Conference Coach of the Year Rex Ecarma. Louisville captured its third consecutive and fourth overall BIG EAST Conference title with a 4- 2 win over South Florida to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Sebastian Stiefelmeyer was named the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player and the conference Freshman of the Year. He posted a 26-11 overall singles record and 17-7 mark in dual matches. Michael Lippens, registered a team-best 33-9 record on the season.
Stiefelmeyer and Albert Wagner earned All-BIG EAST honors along with 2012 senior Andrew Carter.
Tough at Home
Last season, the Cards were 13-1 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center this season with their only loss coming to #3 Ohio State on Feb. 9, 2012. U of L has started a new undefeated streak which currently stands at 10.
Up Next
Louisville will play host to Morehead State and Murray State in a doubleheader on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. respectively.
