LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Maintaining its record of strong performances off the field, the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team was recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's lacrosse Coaches Association as an IWLCA Division I Academic Squad, the Colorado-based organization announced late Monday night.
Louisville, which has earned the award for the third-straight year, was one of four BIG EAST squads that qualified for the honor. In order to earn the distinction, schools are required to have a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Cardinals completed the 2012 season with multiple individuals earning accolades. Nikki Boltja - also an all-BIG EAST second team selection - and Monica Negron garnered IWLCA all-West/Midwest Region second team honors, and Katie Oliverio was named recipient of the 2011-12 BIG EAST Conference Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award.
