Current and former members of the University of Louisville men's tennis team have been hitting the courts throughout the summer. Most recently in Del Ray Beach, Fla., at USTA National Clay Court Championship, incoming freshman Jeffrey Brown advanced to the fourth round in single and teamed with classmate Alex Gornet to reach the third round in doubles.
Brown upset the No. 11 seed Trey Strobel 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 to reach the fourth round, where he fell. 6-2, 6-4 to Martin Redlicki.
After reaching the third round of doubles, the duo of Brown and Gornet lost 6-3, 6-3 to Dominic Cotrone and Juan Garcia.
"That was an impressive upset of the eleventh seed by Jeffrey," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "That player is very experienced and has a big reputation. Both Jeffrey and Alex had some good moments there. We will build on their skill sets."
In Binghamton, N.Y. at the Levene Gouldin and Thompson Tennis Challenger, 2012 graduate Andrew Carter reached the second round in singles where he lost 6-4, 6-2 to Greg Oulette.
"I am so proud of Andrew's effort," said Ecarma. "He was in a draw some great players, including a guy who has played in every Grand Slam tournament. He is learning how to be a pro."
