LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville junior rower Erin Bennett was selected Second Team All-America and First Team All-Region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association last week.
Bennett (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme HS) has been a key contributor to the Cardinals' varsity eight crew during each of her three seasons at Louisville and is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection. During her junior season, she also became the first Cardinal in program history to register a 2K erg score of less than 7 minutes. Off the water, Bennett serves as the rowing team's representative on U of L's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
"Erin has an incredible work ethic, is internally driven and she absolutely loves the sport of rowing," said Louisville head coach Laura Aubrey. "She is the ultimate competitor and a great racer on the water. On and off the water, Erin is a leader and a role model for her teammates and she has earned the All-American and All-Region honors the right way."
During her three seasons as a Cardinal, Bennett earned First Team All-BIG EAST accolades in 2010 and 2011 and was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection in 2012. She also earned First Team All-Region honors in 2010 and was invited to the US Rowing U23 Pre-Elite Team Camp that same year. As a sophomore, she was integral in the Cardinals' BIG EAST champion varsity eight crew, while off the water, she and her teammates have earned U of L's Team Community Service Award in each of the last two seasons.
Bennett is the fourth Louisville rower to earn All-America honors joining Kristin Falovo (2008), Beth Daunhauer (2007) and Amelia Buhts (2005) as Second Team selections.
