PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Louisville women's soccer team opened its two-game road trip to the state of New Jersey with a 3-0 loss at Rutgers on Friday night at Yurcak Field.
With the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 3-3-3 in BIG EAST Conference action and 8-4-3 overall, while the Scarlet Knights improved to 3-5-1 in league games and 10-6-1 overall.
"We were definitely no ourselves tonight," said Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "We weren't sharp at all and Rutgers was very good. We will refocus and get ready for Sunday."
Rutgers opened the scoring in the 15th minute of Friday's match when Amy Pietrangelo connected from eight yards away following a pass from Jonelle Filigno for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead. The Scarlet Knights pushed their advantage to 2-0 in the 27th minute when Filigno scored the first of her two goals on the night
After taking that two-goal lead into the halftime break, Rutgers scored the final goal of the night just 35 seconds into the second half when Filigno connected from eight yards away for her second unassisted goal of the night and the final 3-0 margin.
Overall, the Scarlet Knights finished with an 18-7 advantage in shots, including a 10-4 edge in shots on-goal. Rutgers also had a narrow 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next, Louisville closes the weekend at Seton Hall on Sunday at 1 p.m., ET.
