LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For the second-straight year, the University of Louisville women's lacrosse has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association for its academic excellence, earning IWLCA NCAA Division I Academic Squad honors, the Colorado-based organization announced.
In order to earn the distinction, schools are required to have a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. Louisville was one of eight BIG EAST squads that qualified for the honor.
Recently, the Cardinals were named recipients of the 2010-11 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award, while seniors Sammy Allen and Katie Zoeller garnered IWLCA Honor Roll status.
The squad finished the year with a 10-7 overall mark, as it has now recorded at least 10 victories in each year of its four-year history. Five players were named to the IWLCA all-West/Midwest Region Team, including Bergan Foley - a third team IWLCA All-American - and Emily Dashiell, who were first-team selections. Additionally, four were tabbed all-BIG EAST honorees. Statistically, the team finished the year ranked second nationally in draw controls per game (15.53), fifth in ground balls per game (20.53) and ninth in scoring offense (14.18 goals per game).
