LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team will hit the road this weekend for its BIG EAST Conference opener. The Cards will travel to our nation's capital to face Georgetown on Saturday, Sept. 17 and No. 17 American on Sunday, Sept. 18.
Cards vs. Georgetown

Series Record: UL leads 5-0
Last Meeting: Septemeber 17, 2010: Louisville won 6-1 Scouting the Hoyas: Georgetown brings a 2-3 record into their BIG EAST opener. The Hoyas losses have come to Davidson 2-0, La Salle 4-1, and Bryant University 3-1. Goalkeeper Briana Pereira has 21 saves on the season. The leading scorers are Catherine Shuqrue and Annie Wilson who are tied for two goals.

Series Record: Tied at 1-1 Last Meeting: Sept. 5, 2010 - UL won 2-1
Scouting the Eagles: American University (2-3) is coming off a 2-1 loss to Northwestern. The Eagles also fell to Ohio 2-1 and Old Dominion 4-1. Gina Hofmann is their leading scorer with two goals on the season so far.
The Deal with the Cards
The Cardinals are coming off of a weekend in which they outscored their opponents 10-0, producing back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season.
Senior Hayley Turner leads the team with five goals and four assists for 14 points on the season.
The Cards entered the 2011 season at No. 16 in the NFHCA preseason coaches' poll. This marks the ninth straight year that Louisville has appeared in the nation's top 20.
Last Time Out
The Cardinals embarked on their first road trip of the season to the state of North Carolina. They opened the weekend with a 5-3 win over Davidson College, bringing a two-game winning streak into Sunday's game against No. 11 Wake Forest. Lousville took an early lead, but Wake responded with two goals in the second half to pull ahead 2-1. Hayley Turner tied the game with just under a minute remaining to send the contest into overtime. The Demon Deacons secured the win less than four minutes into the extra period.
Up Next
Following this weekend, the Cardinals will return to Trager Stadium to face a pair of opponents currently ranked among the nation's top 20. BIG EAST foe, fifth-ranked Syracuse will pay a visit on Friday, Sept. 23 and the Cards will face No. 10 New Hampshire on Sunday Sept. 25.
Turner, Conrad Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
Senior midfielder Hayley Turner and junior goalkeeper were named to the BIG EAST honor roll Sept. 12.
Turner scored a goal against Missouri State and tied a school record with three assists against Appalachian State to help lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 record on the weekend.
Conrad posted five saves en route to back-to-back shutouts on the weekend. She registered one stop in the 4-0 win over Missouri State and had four in the 6-0 victory over Appalachian State.
The Turner Watch
Senior Hayley Turner is currently tied for fifth place on the school's list for career goals (38), she needs six more to tie Sherry Effinger for fourth. Jessica Javelet holds the record at 69. Turner also takes over fifth place in career points (89), needing two more to tie Olivia Netzler's fourth place mark of 91. Javelet also holds that record with 189 points. Finally Turner stands at sixth in all-time assists with 25. She needs three more to tie Lisa Wasser for fifth. Nicole Youman owns the record with 52.
Turner also tied a school record when she dished out three assists in the 6-0 win over Appalachian State on Sept. 11.
Fountain of Youth
Louisville features a young lineup with five freshmen and one sophomore among its starters. The underclassmen have contributed 10 of Louisville's 20 goals. Senior Hayley Turner leads the the team with five goals.
