University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Matt Brewer will join the Cardinals' staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
"I am excited to bring Matt Brewer as a Volunteer Assistant," said Ecarma. "He follows my volunteer assistant `legacy' of top SEC performers. Colin Purcell and Rich Benson were tremendously successful players during their careers and now Matt will follow in their footsteps."
Brewer joins the Cardinals from the University of Tennessee where he was a starter on the 2010 NCAA runner-up, National Indoor runner-up and SEC Champion team. He reached as high as No. 52 in the ITA singles rankings, won SEC Player of the Week honors and was a Hope Scholarship recipient.
"Matt will bring his experience of being one step away from winning a NCAA team championship to our program and a load of enthusiasm and passion," said Ecarma. "We have competed against Matt in the past and know how intense a competitor he is. He wants to learn our system at Louisville and add his experience to it."
The 2011 Cardinals posted an 18-12 record and won their second straight BIG EAST Conference title en route to their eighth NCAA tournament appearance. U of L was ranked as high as No. 13 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings and finished the season at No. 24.
