
Women's Lacrosse Has Five Earn All-Region Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Five University of Louisville women's lacrosse players were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association all-West/Midwest Region Team, the organization announced.
"What a tremendous honor for our student-athletes and the University of Louisville," head coach Kellie Young says. "I am incredibly proud of these young women and how they represent Louisville lacrosse."
The Cardinals earned the most selections in program history and tied for the third-most combined honorees in the region. Senior Bergan Foley, who was named to the second team twice in the past, earned first team honors along with classmate Emily Dashiell. Named to the second team were senior Liz Lovejoy, junior Katie Oliverio and Monica Negron, who becomes the first freshman in program history to earn the distinction.
Foley finished her career as the school's all-time leader in seven offensive categories, including career goals with 265. This year, she ranks third in goals per game (3.82), fifth in goals (65), 15th in points per game (4.18) and 21st in overall points (71). In 65 career games, she averaged 4.08 goals per contest.
Dashiell, who was named to the all-region team in 2010, amassed a program-best 247 draw controls, including a career-high 79 in 2011. She ranks fourth nationally in the category and 18th in ground balls per game (2.82). In addition to being a force on the draw, Dashiell recorded 40 goals this season. The Salisbury, Md., native ranks first in program history in ground balls with 174, first in draw controls, first in caused turnovers with 105, and third in points, goals and assists.
Lovejoy capped her four-year career with her finest season, registering 57 goals and 11 assists for 68 points. This year, she ranks eighth nationally in goals, 10th in goals per game (3.35) and 18th in points per game (4.0). She finished her career first on the team in game-winning goals - notching four game-winners in 2011 - and second in four offensive categories.
A Silver Spring, Md., native, Oliverio ranks second in assists per game (2.53), fifth nationally in assists (43) and 30th in points per game (3.76). Through her sophomore and junior campaigns, she has totaled 89 assists. She scored 21 goals this season in addition to collecting 26 ground balls.
Negron started all 17 games this season on defense and finished the year tied for first in caused turnovers (23) and ranked second on the team in ground balls (46). Nationally, she ranks 23rd in ground balls per game.
