LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team will have two of the top seeded crews as they compete at Sunday's 2011 BIG EAST Championship on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
The Cardinals enter the championship seeded No. 1 in the varsity eight and varsity four events, No. 2 in the second varsity eight race and No. 4 in the second varsity four and third varsity eight events. Practice sessions are scheduled for Saturday afternoon while all of the racing action is set for Sunday.
"The team is very prepared for the BIG EAST Championship and despite the horrific (Ohio) river conditions, the morale, focus and determination of the team has not faltered for one second," said Louisville head coach Laura Aubrey. "They remain hungry, enthusiastic and prepared to perform at their absolute best this upcoming weekend.
"I am very proud of this team right now. We stress all year about taking care of the little things, building trust amongst each other, making good and selfless decisions and staying accountable for all your actions. Right now, we are definitely feeling the benefits of the commitment we made to those principles. It is in times of adversity that the areas we don't take care of come out. I can say right now, I've only seen great things from this team over the past three weeks. I know this team is ready for their BIG EAST Championship and nothing is going to get in their way or stop them from reaching their goals."
The Cardinals will open the event in Heat No. 1 of the Varsity 8+ event at 8 a.m., ET, while the Cardinals will race in Heat No. 2 of the Second Varsity 8+ event at 8:30 a.m. U of L will then race in Heat No. 1 of the Varsity 4+ event at 8:40 a.m., before closing the preliminary action in Heat No. 1 of the Third Varsity 8+ event at 9 a.m.
