LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team made its first appearance in the InsideLacrosse Top 20 poll this season, tied for No. 18 with Rutgers, the Maryland-based organization announced late Monday.
The Cardinals are coming off a pair of victories this past week. Louisville cruised past Sacred Heart, 19-8, on March 17, and then routed Manhattan, 20-2, on March 19. With the two wins, Louisville improved to 6-0 and is just one of seven undefeated teams - just one of two in the BIG EAST - at the Division I level.
Collectively, Louisville ranks in the top-five nationally in five different statistical categories: ground balls per game (No. 2 at 24.33 per game), scoring margin (No. 2, with a goal differential of +10), scoring offense (No. 2 at 16.83 goals per game), draw controls per game (No. 3 at 17 per game) and scoring defense (No. 5, holding opponents to 6.83 goals per game).
Individually, four different Cardinals are ranked in the top-10 nationally in multiple statistical categories. Bergan Foley is ranked No. 1 in goals per game (4.67), No. 8 in goals (28) and No. 9 in points per game (5.0). Katie Oliverio is No. 1 in assists per game (4.0) and No. 2 in assists (24). Emily Dashiell, the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, is first in draw controls per game (6.83) and third in ground balls per game (4.0). Ashley Herbst rounds out the four, as she is No. 6 in goals-against average (7.01) and No. 10 in save percentage (.512).
Louisville will play seventh-ranked Stanford on Thursday, March 24, at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium to begin a four-game home stand. Start time is set for 5 p.m.
