The 13th ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team will open the 2011 dual match season Sunday when the Cards visit Old Dominion for a 10 a.m. matchup at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Facility.
"Starting the season on the road against a very established team like Old Dominion is a difficult task," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "It will really show us where we're at as a team right away. We are using some of the strategies that Denny Crum used to use, putting some really tough matches early in the season to grow the team."
U of L is coming off of a record-setting season in 2010, posting a program-best 24-6 record, notching its second BIG EAST Conference title and advancing to the NCAA Championship Round of 16.
The Cardinals are led by eighth-ranked senior Austen Childs who posted an 8-3 record in the fall. Childs, the 2010 NCAA singles runner-up earned All-America honors and was the BIG EAST Player of the Year as a junior. Fellow All-BIG East selection seniors (No. 75) Viktor Maksimcuk, (No. 98) Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari are also back from last year's team.
