Another week down of practice, and now we're packing our bags for a road trip to James Madison University this weekend for our first fall ball tournament!
Our games begin Saturday afternoon, with our first opponent being JMU. Head coach Kellie Young and assistant coach Matt Lawicki coached there for five years prior to their time here at Louisville. Although we are very excited to be playing Kellie's former team, our main focus is playing OUR game. We have been working constantly on fundamentals and our defense that will be applied this weekend, along with some offensive sets that we learned this week. Our second game on Saturday will be against UMBC, a squad coached by Kellie's former player at JMU.
The teams we face this weekend will both be very competitive, having earned Top 20 rankings last year. Even though we are looking to come out 2-0 this weekend, our main goal is to play hard, be consistent, apply what we've learned since coming back to school and click as a team. The team has met numerous times this year to discuss what we want the end of our season to look like, and this is just one stop on the bus to get to our final destination.
Look for next week's blog, as I recap this weekend's tournament and look forward to what lies ahead for the Louisville lacrosse team! Another huge "Good luck!" to the field hockey and women's soccer teams this weekend as they continue to dominate the BIG EAST!
