Cards Open Louisville Fall Invitational

The University of Louisville men's tennis team opened the 2010 fall season with a solid showing at the Louisville Fall Invitational Friday. Junior Robert Hall and freshman Arren Carter reached the quarterfinals of their flights as the Cards picked up four singles wins and two doubles victories on the first day of the event.
"We almost had a perfect seven for seven day but six out of seven isn't bad," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "It was nice to see Robert Hall play experienced tennis and it was also good to see three freshmen get their first college wins. Robert's serve really set him apart today, along with his leadership in doubles. Tomorrow will be a higher level challenge, but with the enthusiasm they showed, I feel good about how well they can do."
In doubles action, both of Louisville teams advanced to their respective flights' quarterfinals. Juniors Robert Hall and Andrew Carter teamed to beat Murray State's Jorge Caetano and Arthur Valle 8-3 in the `A' Flight. The freshman duo of Dante Terenzio and Felipe Nino edged Austin Peay's Peter Conaty and Drew Kerr 9-8(4).
In singles, Hall defeated Youngstown State's Rodrigo Campos 6-1, 6-0 and beat Illinois State's Filip Miljevic 6-4, 7-5 to reach Saturday's Flight `A' quarterfinals. Aaren Carter followed a first round bye with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Western Kentucky's Lance Freeman.
Freshman Felipe Nino defeated first round opponent Viet Lam of Chicago State 6-0, 6-2, but was edged 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 by Austin Peay's Sean Bailey in the second round.
The tournament will continue with doubles action Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
