
Five Swim as USA Nationals Underway

As the 2010 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships gets underway in Irvine, Calif., Five Cardinals have competed as the first session comes to a close.
Distance specialist Riley Martin placed 35th in the 400-meter freestyle with a tine of 3:59.27. In the breaststroke, Michael Haefner went 1:06.05 in the 100-meters to finish 68th in the star-studded field. In the 400-meter IM, Michael Pryor posted a 4:35.95 for 83rd and Alex Burtch went 4:35.22 for 86th in an event topped by Tyler Clary and Olympian Ryan Lochte. Raine Thompson posted a time of 1:03.02 in the 100-meter fly for 87th.
The meet is at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, is one of the biggest swimming events of the year. The meet will serve as the selection meet for the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships, which will take place in Irvine, August 18-22, and will feature top competitors from Japan, Australia, Canada and more than 20 other countries. Both Nationals and the Pan Pacific Championships will also serve as the selection meets for the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.
