LOUISVILLE, Ky. - During the summer, two current members - Jamie Ward and Katie Dillon - and one former athlete - Ashley King - on the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team took a trip to Prague. Below is a recap from their trip out of the country.
Well, Prague was amazing! We had so much fun and enjoyed an unforgettable experience. The sites were beautiful and we were able to see most of the city. Eight days went by quickly, but we definitely made the most of our time in Prague and soaked up as much of the culture as possible. Prague was very different from anything we had ever seen in the States. Czech Republicans walk and take the tram or subway everywhere. You can't drink the tap water and the sun rises at four in the morning and sets at 10 at night!
Our coach, Amanda, and our tour leader, Chad, did a great job organizing everything and making sure that the whole team was able to see and do everything we wanted. We made it to the top of the city several times and looking out at such a beautiful place was truly breathtaking. The soccer World Cup was still going on while we were there and seeing all the diehard fans in the middle of Old Town chanting for their teams was energizing. On the last day of the trip, our team drove out to Karlstejn Castle for a tour and everyone picked up a ton of souvenirs. On the way to Prague and back, we had a layover in Paris and were able to catch a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower.
The competition was good, but we also had a lot of fun playing, and although no one besides the three of us had played together previously, the team played really well. We had games on four of the days of the trip and we ended up finishing third in the tournament (despite the fact that we had the best record of all the teams). The Czech Republic Developmental Team ended up beating the Czech Republic National Team in the championship. Despite the loss, we had a perfect trip and we made some great memories, including falling off the mechanical soccer ball in the middle of Old Town, and we were very lucky to have this experience. Thanks for taking the time to read about our trip!
