The University of Louisville women's swimming and diving recruiting class has been ranked No. 12 in the nation by College Swimming.
College Swimming Said: #12 Louisville - It's time to stop calling the Cardinals an upstart program. Being an aggressive recruiter can help you build a program but it won't necessarily earn you respect. Head coach Arthur Albiero, however, is not only gaining access to the best recruits living rooms, he's also winning over the locals. Krissie Brandenberg and Mary Mittell are the best of the Bluegrass State and Breann McDowell comes from just over the river. Only one international signee (from Canada at that) is on the list in large part because swimmers like Lindsey LaPorte, SwimMAC's Samantha Ormand and Florida transfer Lindsay Rodgers are beginning to see what LaPorte calls, "the whole package. It has a great swim team with great coaches, it has several academic opportunities and degrees and it is in a metropolitan area."
The Cardinals were runners up in the BIG EAST in 2010 and were ranked as high as 13th, sending a record number of swimmers to the NCAAs.
"We are looking forward to welcoming this group of talented young ladies. This was a hand-picked group and we are honored by the recognition of #12 Recruiting Class," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "They are certainly talented student-athletes, but we feel strongly they are also great young ladies with lofty goals. We are fully committed to help them continue develop as athletes, as students, and as women with extremely bright futures. They understand we have much work to do in front of us, but again, we look forward to forming a great partnership with each one of them. This is another step in the development of our program.
Albiero, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year was quick to spread the kudos.
"Much credit goes to the work all of our staff has put in, and in particular to our women's recruiting coordinator Olympian Rachel Komisarz," said Albiero.
