Former All-American Anne Sheridan has been hired as assistant coach for the University of Louisville Cardinal lacrosse staff.
"I am thrilled that Anne Sheridan is coming to The 'Ville and joining our Cardinal lacrosse staff," said U of L head coach Kellie Young. "Anne brings a wealth of coaching and playing know-how from the America East conference and NCAA tournament experience that will bolster our continued success. Her energy for mentoring and passion for coaching will have an immediate impact on our student-athlete's and their overall success on and off the field."
Sheridan comes to U of L after three seasons as the top assistant on the Boston University women's lacrosse staff in 2010. A former first-team All-American, Sheridan has been a coach with the Terrier program for five seasons and a member of the program for the past nine years.
The Terriers fell 14-9 to Penn in the first round of the NCAA this year after earning a berth in the championship with their sixth straight America East title. BU finished the season at 11-9.
Among other duties, Sheridan will help coach U of L's record setting goalkeeper, Danielle Pawliw, who was named a BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The Cardinals are coming off an 11-6 record in 2010.
Since wrapping up her standout playing career at BU five years ago, Sheridan served as an assistant coach, working primarily with the team's goalkeepers. She coordinated the team's defensive unit, in addition to spearheading the program's alumnae relations.
Sheridan, the first and only goalkeeper in BU history to earn first-team All-America honors, was named the 2005 America East Player of the Year after leading the Terriers to a program-best 18-2 record. She led the NCAA in save percentage (.573) that season and was named Goalkeeper of the Year by Inside Lacrosse.
A member of the 2003-04 U.S. National Development Team, Sheridan graduated from BU's College of Arts and Sciences with a degree in psychology.
