
Virginia Tech Defeats Vanderbilt in NCAA First Round

The Virginia Tech men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a dominant 4-0 victory over Vanderbilt University Saturday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky.
No. 3 singles player Corrado Degl' Incerti Tocci clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Vandy's Bryant Salcedo.
Lucas Oliviera got the Hokies' first singles victory when he defeated Charlie Jones 6-3, 6-1. Virginia Tech's Patrick Daciek followed by defeating Alex Zotov 6-4, 6-3.
The Hokies' gained a valuable point during the doubles portion of the tournament with a clutch performance by its No. 3 doubles pair.
Sophomores Corrado Degl' Incerti Tocci and Luke Somen beat the pairing of Vijay Paul and Alex DiValerio 9-7 to break a 1-1 tie. The match remained tight throughout.
The Commodores' top doubles pairing of Adam Baker and Alex Zotov defeated Virginia Tech's Will Beck and Patrick Daciek 8-4 to begin the tournament. The Hokies answered with their No. 2 pair of Sebastien Jacques and Yoann Re winning their match 8-5 over Ryan Lipman and Bryant Salcedo.
"We got a little lucky when we won the doubles point but we played well in the singles," Virginia Tech head coach Jim Thompson said. "To win in that way, I thought we were going to be here for five hours so it was good, good confidence going into tomorrow. "Hokies will face Louisville Sunday at 2 p.m.
