Bergan Foley was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for women's lacrosse today, marking the third time this season that she has been on the Honor Roll and the fifth time a Cardinal has earned BIG EAST recognition.
Foley scored six goals against Connecticut on Friday and added four goals against No. 11 Syracuse on Sunday while being face-guarded the entire time. She has scored at least four goals against four of the six ranked opponents the Cardinals have faced this season. Her six goals against Connecticut marked the fifth time this season she has scored at least six times. Foley had a 56% shooting percentage and a 72% shots on goal percentage for the week and nailed both of her free-position shots against the No. 11 Orange. She raised her goals per game average to 4.53 with her 5.0 average for the week.
Foley, a native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., was a part of three U of L lacrosse records broken last week. First, she teamed with sophomore Katie Oliverio to set a school record for points in a season by a tandem when Oliverio found Foley to put the Cardinals on the board with 20:49 remaining in the first half against the Huskies on Friday, giving the duo their 115th and 116th points of the season. Currently the tandem has combined for 132 points, 17 ahead of the old record set by Foley and Liz Lovejoy (115) during the 2008 season.
Next, Foley broke her season record for goals when she found the back of the net for the 62nd time with 25:58 remaining in the game against Connecticut, and she currently has 68 goals on the season. Foley previously scored 61 goals during both the 2008 and 2009 campaigns.
Finally, Foley and Lovejoy broke the school record for goals in a season by a tandem when Lovejoy found the back of the net with 57 seconds remaining against Connecticut. The goal was the duos tenth of the afternoon and 101st of the season and broke the old school record for goals by a tandem set by Foley and Lovejoy during the 2008 season and Foley and Lianne Bobal last year.
