
Men's Golf Finishes Third at BIG EAST Championships

PALM HARBOR, Fla. - - The University of Louisville men's golf team team finished third at the 2010 BIG EAST Golf Championships at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Course. Georgetown earned its second BIG EAST title and first since 1998. Hoya senior Vincenzo Salina won a four-way playoff, carding a birdie on the first hole, to take the men's individual title.
The Hoyas took the team lead on day two of the BIG EAST Championship and did not look back. GU finished with a three round total of 873 (294, 286, 293) on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook. It was an extremely close tournament as the top six teams were separated by just seven strokes. Notre Dame finished one stroke behind with a score of 874 (299, 289, 286). Third place overall went to Louisville who was three strokes off the lead at 876 (293, 294, 289).
For the Cardinals, Riley Wheeldon tied for eighth overall by firing 72-74-71=217.Chris Biuso tied for 12th overall by shooting 74-73-71=218, while Karsten Clements tied for 21st overall with his 74-74-73=221.Aaron Sherry ended the day in a tie for 30th by carding 73-77-74=224/ Justin Dorward finished in a tie for 41st-place with his 79-73-76=228
Individually in the league, four players tied for first after 54 holes. Salina, Notre Dame teammates Max Scodro and Tom Usher, and St. John's Evan Beirne all finished with 2-over 215's. The competitors faced off in a four-way playoff from the first tee to determine the overall victor. Salina was the only golfer to make birdie on the hole. Scodro, Usher and Beirne tied for second overall.
