
Women's Lacrosse Improves on NCAA Statistical Rankings

For the fifth straight week, University of Louisville lacrosse attacker Bergan Foley leads the nation in goals per game with an average of 4.46 per game. After a seven goal performance on Saturday against Jacksonville, Foley climbed from third in total goals to a three-way tie for first along with Emily Boissonneault from Detroit and Erin Rawlick from Navy who all have 58 goals on the season.
Foley has scored in 41 of her 42 career games and recorded her 11th career game on Saturday with six or more goals in a 21-9 U of L victory against the Dolphins and third game of the season with seven goals in a game. She needs three more goals to tie her single season record of 61 goals set in both 2008 and 2009.
Sophomore midfielder Katie Oliverio continues to climb in the NCAA Division I rankings in assists per game as well as total assists. Currently, Oliverio ranks third nationally in assists per game with 2.54, just 0.13 assists per game behind national leader Katie Latonick from Quinnipiac. Oliverio is currently fifth nationally in assists with 33, just seven behind Latonick. Last week, Oliverio was ranked eighth nationally in assists per game and seventh in total assists.
Oliverio set a school record on Saturday for career assists against Jacksonville when she found Foley with 15:05 remaining in the game, giving her 37 for her career, surpassing Tara Restly's old mark of 36 assists. Oliverio has recorded an assist in 12 of the Cardinals' 13 games this season, including seven games with three or more assists and two games with five.
Emily Dashiell is now ninth in the nation in draw controls per game with 3.69 per contest. Dashiell jumped from 22nd to 19th nationally in caused turnovers and is now averaging 1.92 caused turnovers per game.
The Cardinals remained second nationally as a team in draw controls (15.85 per game) after a 21 draw control performance against Jacksonville over the weekend, currently trailing No. 1 Northwestern (16.46). The Cardinal's 14.69 goals per game, vaulted them back into the top 10 in scoring average, where they currently sit in ninth place.
Last season, Louisville finished in the top five nationally in both cause turnovers and ground balls. The Cardinals' 12.65 caused turnovers per game were second in the nation in NCAA Division I behind fellow BIG EAST opponent Loyola (MD). Currently, Louisville is averaging 10.92 caused turnovers per game and after a 17 caused turnover performance against the Dolphins the Cards are ranked ninth nationally. Louisville closed the gap on Jacksonville in ground balls per game after recording 14 more ground balls than the Dolphins in their game on Saturday. The Dolphins remain in first with 24.93 ground balls per contest, while U of L is 11th with 21.93 per game.
Louisville (8-5) hosts their final two home games of the season this weekend when they play host to Connecticut on Friday at 5 p.m. and Syracuse on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be played at the University of Louisville Lacrosse Stadium and admission is free.
