FULLERTON, Calif. - - Jordan Trimble went 3 for 3 and Alicja Wolny drove in three runs as the No. 23/24 University of Louisville softball team defeated host Cal State Fullerton 6-2 Saturday in the Judy Garman Classic. The Cards (18-10) will face No. 15 Texas Sunday at noon (EDT).
The Cardinals struck early with two runs in the first. Jennifer Esteban and Vanessa James delivered back-to-back singles and scored on Alicja Wolny's RBI double.
Louisville tacked on four more runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Jordan Trimble and Kristin Austin singled to set up Melissa Roth's two-run double. Jennifer Esteban walked and Roth moved to third on an illegal pitch. Vanessa James reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases for Alicja Wolny's walk. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Chelsea Bemis plated Esteban.
The Titans got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second behind Trina Harrison's two-run homer. Torrie Anderson led off the inning with a single to set up the score.
Kristen Wadwell (9-6) got the win, holding the Titans scoreless on three hits and striking out one in 3.2 innings of relief. Starter Tori Collins gave up two earned run on two hits and struck out one in 3.1 innings. Trimble pace the Cards, going 3 for 3 with a run.
Ari Cervantes (2-11) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits in 1.1 innings of work. Anderson was 2 for 2 in the game. The Titans drop to 4-24 on the season.
