The No. 19-ranked and defending Big East Champion University of Louisville Men's Swimming and Diving Team has signed four high school athletes and one junior college transfer for the Fall of 2011.
Head Coach Arthur Albeiro announced the signing of Addison Bray of Terre Haute, Ind.; Aaron Young of Hillsboro, Ore.; Rudy Edelen of Bowling Green, Ky.; Tyler Clingerman of Plainfield, Ind. and Matt Ryan of Newburgh, Ind.
Addison Bray joins the Cards via Terre Haute South High School and Coach Jeff Thompson's Terre Haute Torpedoes. A multiple time High School All-American, the breaststroke specialist was runner-up at the 2010 Indiana High School State Meet in the 100-breast after posting the fastest time of the meet in the preliminaries (55.17).
"Addison is one of the top breaststrokers in the country coming out of high school this year. We are extremely excited about his potential and look forward to his growth in the sport. He has the ability to be an impact player for us his first day on campus, but what excited me most throughout the recruiting process with Addison was his vision and goals for his collegiate career," said Albiero.
Aaron Young comes to Louisville from Hillsboro High School and the Tualatin Hills Swim Club under the tutelage of Linck Bergen. A High School All-American and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Young ranks at the top of his class at Hillsboro High School. The backstroke and butterfly specialist was also the Oregon 5A High School State Champion in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events at the 2010 Championships.
"Aaron is a phenomenal student, athlete, and person and we are very excited to welcome him to UofL. His versatility will be key for us in the coming years. We expect for him to make an immediate impact for us in the fly and backstroke events," said Albiero.
Kentucky native Rudy Edelen comes to the `Ville from Bowling Green. The Bowling Green High School and Southern Kentucky Swim Club product was a finalist in the 50 yard Freestyle at the 2010 Kentucky High School State Meet. "We do our best every year to keep the best young men from Kentucky in state at Louisville. We have succeeded this year in having Rudy join us as a Cardinal. Rudy has tremendous potential and big dreams. We are very eager to get him to campus to begin working with him," said Albiero.
Tyler Clingerman, the 2010 NJCAA Diver of the Year, comes to Louisville from Lincoln College in Normal, IL. Clingerman, a junior college transfer, prepped at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, IN where he was a High School All-American and runner-up on the 1M Springboard at the 2009 Indiana High School State Meet. In 2010, Tyler was named NJCAA Diver of the Year after placing first on both the 1-M and 3-M springboard at the 2010 NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
"Tyler comes to us with great experience competing at a high level. We are very excited to have him join us, and he will make an immediate impact at the Big East and National level," said Mike Zehnder, head diving coach.
Diver Matt Ryan joins the Cards from Castle High School in Newburgh, IN. A High School All-American and member of the Indiana Dive Club, Ryan was the 2010 Southern Indiana Conference Champion on the 1-M Springboard.
"We are eager for Matt to join us at Louisville. He has great potential and we look for great things from him on the future," said Zehnder.
"This is a very solid group of men that fills some holes in our lineup. As a staff we feel that this class gives us a little of everything that we need. We had the luxury this year of being able to hone in on a few select young men that we felt could really move the program forward, and we succeeded in getting those individuals. It is our goal every year to find `our guys', young men that have a burning desire to do great things in the pool and the classroom, and believe that being a Cardinal is the best way for them to achieve their goals. These young men are definitely `our guys'," said Albiero.
