Swimming and Diving Have Solid First Day at Purdue Invitational

After the first day of competition at the Purdue Invitational, the University of Louisville women are in second and the men are in third with two days remaining.
The men trail only Purdue and Ohio State and the women are right behind Arkansas as a day of highlighted performances unfolded.
"We fought very hard. Both the resting group and the group focused on Short Course Nationals raced very tough today," said U of L coach Arthur Albiero. "A number of athletes showed up and swam their lifetime bests. Our depth on the women's side really showed today and we are in a good team battle with Arkansas, trailing by just 21 points."
The meet started out with a bang when the Louisville women won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:31.80 which was an NCAA B-cut time. Krissie Brandenburg led off with a leg of 23.41, followed by Nicole Landisch (22.85), Lacey Bobo (22.64) with Aileen Cole anchoring (22.90).
Hannah Gadd won the 3-meter diving with a score of 335.00. In the 50-free, Nicole Landisch was second with a time of 22.92.
Other highlights include Pedro Oliveia,who scored big in the 500-free with a second place, turning in a time of 4:28.78. In the 200-IM, Fanny Lilliestrom was third (2:02.86) and Stephanie Juncker was fourth (2:03.27) for a solid showing. For the men, Carlos Almeida posted a second place finish, going 1:49.15.
