As fall ball winds down, we were happy to be hosting our first fall games on home turf!
Not only were we excited to be playing in front of a home crowd, but we were also happy to have our parents in town for the games. This tournament was a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and also prostate cancer awareness, in honor of Bellarmine's head men's lacrosse coach, Jack McGetrick, who passed away last week.
Our first game was against the Ohio State Buckeyes, and even with a slow start, we were able to put some points on the board. In a game that our team struggled in, we were able to learn from our mistakes and apply new lessons into our second game.
Vanderbilt was a different game for us. We were able to play at a much more intense level and play our game. With balanced scoring from the attack and a strong effort on defense, we came out with a strong win. Brooke Campbell scored a Geno (goal) by ripping it "top cheddar," and Emily Dashiell was able to sniff her way to find the back of the net numerous times. Monica Negron, Jamie Ward and Aimee Dixon were a strong defensive wall and dictated Vanderbilt's attack.
A special thanks to the Fraternity Triangle for showing their support for breast cancer and the Louisville lacrosse team at our Lax for the Cure event! Also, a special thanks to the Bellarmine men's lacrosse team for attending at such a difficult time, Shane Anderson for being such a great supporter!
On Friday, our team was recognized at the Cincinnati football game, wearing our pink in support of breast cancer. And Saturday, we wrapped up the weekend with our annual team banquet. Two alumni from the Class of 2010, Lyndsay Ward and Ashley King, were able to fly in town for the weekend. Coaches, parents, friends and players got together in the new expansion of the stadium and reminisced on the successes of last year. Congratulations to Danielle Pawliw for being named Rookie of the Year, Katie Oliverio for Most Improved Player, Jamie Ward and Emily Dashiell for the co-Unsung Hero award, Colleen Nevin for the co-Coach's Award, and lastly, Ashley King for co-Most Valuable Player! I also earned the co-Coach's award and co-Most Valuable player for last year, which was exciting!!
Fall Ball is slowly coming to an end. This is our last week of practice before we travel to our last tournament at Gorge Mason on Friday. Tune in for the results of our last tournament next week!
