LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team wrapped up the Lax for the Cure Tournament on Thursday evening at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium. The squad faced Ohio State in the first contest of the day and closed the event with a game against Vanderbilt.
While the Cardinals were successful on the field, finishing the day with a 2-0 mark, the goal of the day was to help raise awareness during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All three squads wore light blink and light blue (prostate cancer) ribbons during play, while the Louisville coaching staff sported pink tops. Prior to the start of the Ohio State-Vanderbilt match, a moment of silence was held in honor of the late Bellarmine men's lacrosse head coach, Jack McGetrick, who passed away on Oct. 9 after a long battle with cancer.
Louisville was scheduled to play the Bellarmine men's squad on Saturday, Oct. 16, in the 'Battle of the Sexes.' However, due to the passing of coach McGetrick, the contest will be postponed until further notice.
The Cardinals are scheduled to complete the fall ball season on Oct. 23 at the George Mason Tournament, with contests against tournament-host George Mason, Penn State and Duquesne.
