Men's Tennis Post Seven Wins at UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS - - The 20th ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up six singles wins and one doubles victory against players from Alabama Friday in the UNLV Men's Spring Invitational.
The Cardinals got singles wins from juniors Austen Childs, Viktor Maksimcuk and Alejandro Calligari, sophomores Andrew Carter and Robert Hall and freshman Chidi Gabriel. The tandem of Hall and Calligari registered the only doubles win on the day.
"It was an impressive day for us in singles," said Ecarma. "Austen defeated won of the best player in the SEC and country in Saketh Myneni, who was preseason #10 in the country. I liked the way that Viktor, Robert, Alejandro and Chidi won in straight sets. Andrew scored another in against a nationally ranked singles player in Michael Thompson. At times last season we struggled at Nos. 5 and singles, but a result like today only shows me that it can be a strength in our line-up. I also want to give extra acknowledgement to Hall and Calligari who won both singles and doubles today."
Austen Childs, ranked No. 46 in the nation, topped Alabama's No. 62 Saketh Myneni 7-6, 6-4. 81st ranked Carter defeated No. 123 Michael Thompson 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6). Maksimcuk beat Houssam Yassine 6-3, 6-3. Hall picked up a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Jarryd Botha 6-4, 6-4. Gabriel defeated Trey Watson 6-3, 6-2.
The 33rd ranked team of Hall and Calligari topped Michael Thompson and Ricky Doverspike 8-5 in doubles.
