University of Louisville sophomore Robert Hall advanced to the singles and doubles finals of the United State Tennis Association Kentucky State Closed Tennis Championships.
"I am always pleased when a player competes in a tournament in the summer," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I am especially happy when they do well. Robert made it to the finals in both singles and doubles which is a very good effort. I know he wants to use this to build momentum so he can have an extremely successful fall invitational season. He has been working very hard in the weight room and track and it really showed."
The Bowling Green, Ky., rattled off four straight-set wins before falling in three sets to Travis Curran in the championship match. Hall opened the round of 32 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Benjamin Newstadt. Hall cruised past Nathan Matthews 6-0, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals where he defeated Chad True 6-2, 6-0. In the semifinals, Hall topped Colin Purcell 6-3, 6-1 to set up the championship match.
The doubles team of Hall and Hodge picked up three wins before withdrawing in the finals due to injury. They topped McAdams and Sample 7-6(2), 6-2 in the first round. Hall and Hodge edged Gregory and Matthews 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(4) in the quarterfinals and Dwire and Purcell 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals.
