
Field Hockey Off to 5-0 Start in Spring Season

The University of Louisville field hockey team continued to show the strength it demonstrated in the 2008 season by going undefeated in the first weekend of spring play. The Cards went 3-0 on Saturday at Miami University and picked up two more wins at Indiana University on Sunday.
On Saturday, sophomore Nikki Auker scored as the Cards defeated the host RedHawks 1-0 in their first game of the day. Sophomore Karah Nall put Louisville on the scoreboard with assists from freshman Hayley Turner and sophomore Tuli Lim as the Cards beat Michigan 1-0. U of L closed play with another 1-0 win over Miami - this time Julie Anne Smith provided the offense.
The Cards traveled to Bloomington, Ind., on Sunday and beat the host Hoosiers 2-1. In that game, Smith notched her second goal in as many games with an assist from Turner. Sophomore Nicole Youman connected on the game-winner with the help of Turner and sophomore Tuli Lim. Louisville cruised to a 9-0 win over Ball State. Youman scored twice while Smith, Auker, Lim, junior Kayla May, sophomores Simon Attles and Rachel Hollenbach, and freshman Heather Stevens also registered goals. Turner had four assists in the game while Attles also combined on a goal.
The Cardinals resume Longstreth Midwest League play on Saturday, April 4 at Trager Stadium at 8:30 am against Michigan State and at 4 p.m. against Indiana University.
