LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After finishing ahead of No. 9 Wisconsin last Saturday afternoon in Michigan, the University of Louisville moved up three positions to No. 17 in this week's USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll released on Wednesday.
The Cards earned 119 points in the poll, just one point behind Wisconsin, which dropped seven spots from last week to No. 16. Yale, Stanford and California again hold the top three spots respectively in the latest poll, while Louisville is once again the only BIG EAST school in this week's top 20.
"Our racing this past weekend helped to move us up a couple spots and we are happy to see that, but we're certainly hungry for much more," said Louisville head coach Laura Fogt. "We missed some opportunities from this past weekend, but those are great lessons to learn now, assuming we grow from them."
Louisville's varsity eight crew finished more than five seconds clear of the Badgers during last Saturday's races in Belleville, Mich., and the Cards were only 3.05 seconds behind No. 4 Michigan.
Up next, Louisville will travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the annual Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in the final week of racing prior to the BIG EAST Championships on April 25 in Camden, N.J.
