The University of Louisville lacrosse team will open its regular spring schedule on February 20 at Bryant University as the Cardinals embark on their inaugural season as a BIG EAST member.
U of L, under the guidance of head coach Kellie Young, has ramped up the difficulty in this slate as the second year program. The Cardinals are picked to finish sixth in the league but their high octane offense makes them the wild card in the BIG EAST. Louisville will be vying for one of just four spots in the conference tournament.
"We added three preseason top 20 programs including No. 2 Syracuse, No. 11 Notre Dame and No.16 Stanford," said Coach Young. "We were already playing No. 8 Georgetown."
The Cardinals return the nation's leading scorer in Bergan Foley, who averaged 4.07 goals per game. Joining Foley among the nation's tope players in 2008 was first-year midfielder Emily Dashiell, who ranked 11th nationally in draw controls with 3.38 per game.
As a team, the Cardinals ranked fifth in the nation in scoring offense with 15.17 goals per game and fifth nationally in draw controls with 15.06 per contest. Louisville was also sixth in scoring margin at +5.44, seventh in caused turnovers with 10.75 per game and ninth in win percentage by winning 75 percent of their games in 2008.
All home games are played in U of L Lacrosse Stadium.
