After an exceptional fall season of play, senior defender Ashley King has been named team captain of the University of Louisville lacrosse team. As a junior, she had 42 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers. A transfer from UMass, King was named Co-Rookie of the Year last year for the Cardinals.
"Ashley is a remarkable young woman and a phenomenal lacrosse player." said U of L head coach Kellie Young. "She is one of the scrappiest defenders I have ever coached and is maturing in to a confident transition player. Naming her a captain was the only way to properly honor what Ashley achieved this fall. A transfer student now in her second year at Louisville and one of four seniors on our squad, Ashley's voice and her sheer determination draw attention each and every game day. I have no doubt she will work well with Colleen, Bergan and Jamie and I look forward to helping them guide this squad in our third season of play."
