LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With head coach Pam Bustin in Beijing with the USA Field Hockey team, assistant coaches Britt Broady and Abbey Heird helped guide the University of Louisville field hockey team to an 8-0 win over the alumnae in a preseason warmup at Trager Stadium Saturday.
With over 25 former players returning for the annual event and weather conditions nearly perfect, the Cardinals were put to the test just two days after their first practice and responded with five goals in the first half.
Sophomore Nicole Youman opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, netting her first goal at the 31:27 mark. Freshman Hayley Turner added another goal at the 24:20 mark. Sophomore Tuli Lim made it a 3-0 game midway through the half. Youman and junior Kayla May added two goals in a two minute span to give the Cards a 5-0 halftime lead.
The second half brought more offensive firepower as sophomore Simone Attles delivered a goal ten minutes into the half. Freshman Heather Stevens and sophomore Nikki Auker rounded out the scoring for the 8-0 final.
U of L will travel to Bloomington, Ind. for an exhibition game on Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.
