BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - University of Louisville men's tennis signee Robert Hall advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Summer Circuit in late July. Hall picked up four wins before falling to top-seeded and eventual champion Kalim Stewart.
Hall opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Trevor Cox and went on to defeat Jeffrey Rutherfor 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the round of 16. He topped Hunter Schouweiler 6-2, 6-4 to set up a quarterfinal match against the tournament's fourth-seeded Santiago Gruter. Hall beat Gruter 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals.
"I am really proud of Robert Hall's result at the ITA summer circuit tournament in Bloomington," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "The quarterfinal win against Santiago Gruter was especially impressive. I consider Santiago one of the better freshmen in the Big Ten last year and Robert won convincingly 6 -3, 6 -1. He gave California standout, Kalim Stewart, a tough match in the semifinal as well. Kallim has been nationally ranked in college and was the former #1 junior player in the USA. This was very meaningful for Robert because he has been battling injuries since early May and this is the first time he has felt healthy in a long while. I think his true potential is coming out and he can also impact our team with his energy and never-give-up attitude."
