TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Louisville's Chris Dominguez continues to add to his lengthy list of individual awards, earning Third Team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball. The sophomore third baseman was also named one of 50 semifinalists for the 2008 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, presented to the nation's premier amateur baseball player.
He is the sixth Cardinal baseball player to be selected to an All-American team.
Dominguez, who was the only consensus selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team, was also named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year after batting .369 with 67 runs, 13 doubles, 20 home runs and 74 RBI.
He has committed just six errors this season and collected two hits in all four games of the BIG EAST Championship, leading the Cardinals to their first league title in school history, earning the Jack Kaiser Award, which is given annually to the MVP of the BIG EAST Championship.
This year will mark the 31st consecutive year that the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award has been presented to the nation's premier amateur baseball player.
The list of 50 players is narrowed to five finalists on Tuesday, June 3, en route to the announcement of this year's winner on Wednesday, July 16.
The Cardinals, who hit the 40-win plateau for the second time in as many seasons under second-year Head Coach Dan McDonnell, are in Athens, Georgia where they are the #3 seed in the NCAA Athens Regional, facing #2 seed Georgia Tech Friday at 7:06 p.m. ET.
All postseason games will be broadcast in Louisville by Insight Cable on ICN Channel 2. Games will also be carried live in Louisville on Sportsradio 1450 WAVG AM radio and all regional games can be heard free of charge on-line at UofLSports.com.
