
Men's Tennis NCAA Singles and Doubles Draws Announced

The University of Louisville's Austen Childs will face UCLA's Harel Srugo in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship Wednesday, May 21 at noon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Austen Childs and Simon Childs will play Maryland's Boris Fetbroyt and Andy Orbran on Thursday, May 22 in the NCAA Doubles Championship round of 32. Start times for doubles matches will be announced Wednesday
This marks the third consecutive year that U of L has had a doubles team in the NCAA doubles competition and the second time in three years, the Cards have competed in the singles championship.
Austen Childs, a freshman from Mt. Maunganui, New Zealand, has had an impressive freshman season, become the first U of L freshman to be selected to the NCAA singles competition. During the season, he compiled a 25-13 overall record and is 15-8 as the Cardinals' top-seeded player. Childs has appeared as high as No. 36 in the ITA singles rankings and currently stands in at No. 43. He was also an All-BIG EAST selection and garnered ITA Midwest Region Rookie of the Year honors.
Childs' first round opponent, Srugo, is the top-seeded player the for third-ranked, 2008 semifinalist UCLA Bruins. He is currently 23rd in the nation. The winner of the first round match will face the winner of Stanford (overall 8th seed - Alex Clayton) and Radford (Martin Sayer) on Thursday in the round of 32.
Austen Childs and fellow freshman Simon Childs (Hillington, England) stand in at No. 47 in the ITA doubles rankings after posting a 10-4 mark as the Cards' No. 1 doubles team. On Feb. 26, they debuted at No. 23, becoming the first freshman team in Louisville history to earn a top 25 ranking.
Childs and Childs' first round opponent, Fetbroyt and Orban (15-3), are ranked eighth in the final ITA standings. The two doubles teams met earlier in the season when then-30th ranked Fetbroyt and Orban upset the 23rd ranked Louisville duo 8-6 as the Terps defeated the Cards 4-3 in College Station, Md., on March 2.
The winner of the first round match will go on to face the winner of Tulsa (Andy Connelly/Ross Cunningham) and North Carolina State (Nick Cavaday/Jay Weinacker) Friday in the round of 16.
