LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will host 16th-ranked Tennessee (6-0) at 5 p.m. Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"Tennessee is a great team and may win the SEC Championship this year," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "We respect them but we are focusing on our game and what got us to 6 - 0. I have been having the guys work on cutting down unforced errors and thinking about what our skill set is. I believe the key to the win will be execution of gameplan and managing emotions. I have tested them a lot during practice and trust they will 'stay calm in the storm of the match.' My guys believe in themselves and they know the coaching staff has a tremendous amount of confidence in them as well."
The Cardinals (6-0), No. 59 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, are coming off of a doubleheader sweep of Western Kentucky and Dayton last Friday. Freshman Austen Childs is No. 36 in the ITA singles rankings, and carries a 15-5 overall record with a 5-0 tally as the Cards' top seed. Sophomores Kenneth Nordheim and David Simon have combined for a team-best 7-3 doubles record and are 4-1 in dual matches.
Following the Tennessee match, the Cards will play host to Middle Tennessee on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.
