
Field Hockey Set for Season Finale

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The twelfth-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team will wrap up the regular season Saturday against BIG EAST Conference opponent Georgetown.
U of L (13-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) is coming off of a 2-1 win over host Indiana on Wednesday. The Cardinals are in a three-way tie for first at 4-1 in the BIG EAST standings with Sunday's game against Georgetown a determining factor in the regular season title. With a victory, the Cards could secure a share of the regular season crown. Syracuse and Connecticut are also 4-1 in conference with their regular season finales being played this weekend as well.
Louisville's offense has been very balanced this season with 13 players registering at least one goal or assist and six players with point totals in double figures. Sophomore midfielder Nicole Youman leads the Cardinal attack with 22 points (6G, 10A) on the season. Sophomore Tuli Lim follows with 20 points (9G, 2A) and junior Kayla May's 19 points (8G, 3A) place her third on the team.
The Cards recently dropped one spot to No. 12 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Associate poll after having spent six weeks at No. 11. Louisville is in the midst of a challenging schedule. Eleven of their 15 opponents have been ranked in the NFHCA top 20 and six have been in the top 10 at the time of competition.
Georgetown (0-16, 0-5) is coming off of a 6-1 loss to No. 7 Connecticut on Wednesday. The Hoyas are led by Kristen Volpe's eight points (4G).
Saturday's game will also mark senior day for Team Cardinal. Lauren Schaefer, the lone senior on the team is also one of the most highly decorated players. The defender from Millersville, Pa., is the team captain, a member of the 2008 Senior All-Star team, a 2007 All-BIG EAST selection and is currently fourth on the team with 13 points (5G, 3A).
Following Saturday's game, the Cards will await their seeding in the BIG EAST Conference tournament which will be held Nov. 7-9 at the University of Connecticut.
