LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will host Western Kentucky (0-0) at noon and Dayton (2-1) at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals, No. 58 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, are coming off of a 6-1 win over Marquette on Sunday, improving their record to 4-0 on the season. Freshman Austen Childs is No. 36 in the ITA singles rankings, and carries a 14-5 overall record with a 4-0 tally as the Cards' top seed. Sophomores Kenneth Nordheim and David Simon have combined for a team-best 6-2 doubles record and are 4-0 in dual matches. "
"We have been working on groundstroke consistency and decision-making this week in practice," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Our theme has been to play `high percentage' tennis. We want them to minimize high risk shots and maximize low risk shots. We hope to see this against Western Kentucky and Dayton. We understand both teams will be fired up against us and that a double header format tests the stamina of the team. I am constantly testing them everyday to make them mentally tougher so hopefully they will pass the test against both of our opponents."
The Cardinals will be back in action against No. 24 Tennessee Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
