
Andrea Buch Joins U of L Rowing Coaching Staff

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Former University of Kansas rower Andrea Buch has been hired as novice head coach and in-state recruiting coordinator for the University of Louisville women's rowing program Cards' head coach Laura Fogt announced Monday.
"It's great to have Coach Buch on staff at Louisville," said Fogt, who was introduced as the Cards' head coach on July 6. "Her contagious energy will make her an excellent coach for the novice women as well as a great role model for the varsity women. She understands the demands of being a competitive Division I athlete and she will do a fantastic job of preparing the novice women for a successful racing season."
Buch, who graduated with honors from the University of Kansas in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in geography, rowed for the Top 25 ranked Jayhawks from 1998-2002. She was team captain as a senior and was a member of the top varsity crew her junior and senior seasons. She rowed with the second varsity crew her first two seasons with KU and was named Most Outstanding Freshman in 1998.
Buch also excelled in the classroom at KU consistently earning Jayhawk Scholar and Big XII Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition. From 2005-2007, Buch attended the University of Otago in New Zealand earning a master's degree in geography.
"I'm so excited to be part of the fantastic athletic community here at Louisville and to be joining the Cards after such a groundbreaking season last year," said Buch. "I look forward to building on that success."
Buch joins the Louisville rowing program after coaching at East Lyme High School and the Thames River Sculls in Conn., in 2007. Prior to that, she was the head coach at Lyme-Old Lyme High School in 2004 where she coached the gold medalist crews in the Boys and Girls 2x events at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. From 1998-2003, she coached both sweep and sculling to the high performance juniors program at Blood Street Sculls in Old Lyme, Conn., where she was also involved with their highly competitive masters program. Buch started her coaching career in 1996 working with the Old Lyme Rowing Association.
