
Men's Golf Ends Magical Season at NCAA Championships

Williamsburg, Va. - The nationally ranked Stanford men's golf team holds a one-shot lead over Minnesota after two rounds of the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at the par 70, 6,808-yard Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. The championships are being hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University.

The Cardinals finished at 27th after shooting 288-292-288=868 for the tournament. The Cardinals needed to finish in the top 15 to advance to the final round of competition.
Despite not making the cut, the Cardinals ended their best season ever with their first-ever championship appearance and a third-straight visit to the NCAA Regionals. After shooting 12-over 292 on Day Two, the Cardinals played better to shoot 288 on the third day. Stanford leads at 12-under par and Coastal Carolina is second at 10-under par.
For the Cardinals, sophomore Adam Hadwin posted the best finish in a tie for 23rd. He shot 70-71-69=210. He played well all week, including a third-round 69.
Junior Adam Rainaud posted 68 on Friday to rally to finish in a tie for 92nd. He shot 73-76-68=217. The twins, Derek and Daryl Fathauer never seemed to get on track, finishing in a tie at 124th and 127th, respectively. Derek fired 75-74-72=221 and Daryl was 70-73-79=222. Freshman Lewis Kirton finished last with 82-74-80=236.
The Cardinals ended the year with a school-record six tournament wins and a BIG EAST title.
