EVANSVILLE, Ind. - - The University of Louisville softball team fell to host Evansville 2-1 Tuesday evening. The Cards drop to 30-22 on the season, while Evansville moves to 31-18.
The Purple Aces broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when a walk and two hit batters loaded the bases. Laura Rather drew a two-out walk to send Lissa Fehlman home for a 1-0 lead.
The Cards tied the game in the top of the fourth when Courtney Moore led off the frame with a single, took second on Kassie Stanfill's groundout and scored on Brooke McCrain's double.
Krista Price blasted a leadoff home run over left center in the home half of the fourth to give Evansville a 2-1 lead.
Catherine Bishop (8-10) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on two hits and striking out six in 4.1 innings. Audrey Rendon went 2 for 2 with a stolen base to lead the Cards offensively. The Cards left runners in scoring position in all but two innings, stranding five in the game.
"We need to do a better job of producing when we have runners in scoring position," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "Our pitching is struggling with walks and giving up the big hit."
Evansville's Ashley Hobbs (11-7) got the win, giving up only one earned run on five hits in 4.1 innings. Jacki Bradley picked up her second save, holding the Cards scoreless on one hit in 1.2 innings.
U of L will close out the regular season with BIG EAST Conference matchups at Seton Hall on Saturday, May 5 and St. John's on Sunday, May 6.
