LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Alejandro Calligari has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Cardinals in the 2007-08 season.
Calligari joins the Cards from Bradenton, Florida where he was one of the top students at the renowned Nick Bolletierri Academy. He was an all-state player and MVP at Bradenton Preparatory Academy and helped lead his team to the Florida State High School Championship. Calligari was a finalist in the Academy Prix which featured a field of over 150 players.
"Anytime you sign a top player from the best academy in America, you just improved your team," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Alejandro is one of the top recruits from the state of Florida but is still 'under the radar.' He enjoys the team aspect of an individual sport like tennis and will rise to the occasion for the team. His team results are impressive. I believe he will play in our starting line-up right away and in our system will improve tremendously."
The University of Louisville (8-14, 1-1 BIG EAST) will travel to Tampa, Fla., for the BIG EAST Championship April 20-22.
