In the first day preliminaries in the USA Short Course National Championships held in Atlanta, Ga., U of L had two swimmers advance to this evening's finals.
Leslie VanWinkle set a new school record qualifying 12th in the 200-IM with a time of 2:01.34 for the B-Final this evening. Teammate Andrei Radzionau advanced to the C-heat in the 50-free with a time of 20.23, just short of his school record of 20.14 he set at Purdue.
Freshman Nicole Landisch just missed the cut but set a new school record with a swim of 23.24 in the 50-free to qualify 29th overall.
Tonight the blazing fast foursome of Carlos Van Isschot (back), Vali Preda (breast), Adarm Madarassy (fly) and Andrei Radzionau (free) will pit their best effort against a stellar field in the 400-medley relay.
"This is a very fast meet," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "We are in there competing harder than we have ever done before. Let's just see what we can do."
