If you are athletic and would like to try a new sport at a Division I program, then rowing could be the sport for you. The Cardinal rowing program will host an informational meeting on Monday, Aug. 28 and Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the Floyd Theater from 1-2 p.m. ET and will host the Big Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 5-7 p.m. ET at the Red Barn on the U of L campus.
At the University of Louisville, we will teach you how to row and train, which allows you the opportunity to race other novice programs from all over the United States. We can compete in 9 races over the entire first year with the biggest regatta being the BIG EAST Championships!
To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate student in full-time studies and in good academic standing. If you are a freshman and would like to try out, please register with the NCAA clearinghouse as soon as possible. You can do this online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. It is mandatory that all women wishing to tryout must register before they do the first day of tryouts on Wed Aug 30, 06.
Following the informational meetings, we will start tryouts on Wednesday, Aug. 30, with the one-mile run test at Cardinal Park (right beside the Ulmer Softball Stadium). The compliance staff will be conducting a meeting and paperwork so we can proceed with your participation. For the tryout, please bring a photo copy of both sides of an active health insurance card, running shoes, water and workout gear. If you are under 18 years of age, please let the coach know as you will need to have a parent sign some paperwork to allow you to tryout.
Starting on Thursday, Aug. 31, the tryouts will continue at our Boathouse location on River road (Click Here For Directions). Each tryout session will start at 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. During the tryouts, we will teach you how to row on the rowing machine. The maximum length of tryout will be two hours. You can sign up for the time slot that best suits your class schedule.
We encourage all interested people to give it a shot because you may find the perfect sport for you. It is a great team sport that offers plenty of opportunity to improve.
We look forward to seeing you on Aug. 28 or Aug. 29 at the Floyd Theater from 1-2 p.m. or attend the Big Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the Red Barn from 5-7 p.m., or you can stop by at our Cardinal Red Rowing Tent at the base of the SAC ramp during the first week of school to find out more. If you would like to contact coach Laura Fogt before tryouts, please do so at 502-852-3325 or email at lnfogt01@louisville.edu.
Sincerely,
